The Milwaukee Bucks triumphed 113-109 over the Detroit Pistons, despite losing two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo to injury early in the game.
Antetokounmpo, 30, fell to the floor just three minutes into the match and was helped off the court by his teammates. The Bucks found themselves trailing by 18 points in the first quarter, but mounted a strong comeback at Fiserv Forum to secure just their second win in their last 10 games.
Kevin Porter Jr. led the charge for Milwaukee with 26 points, while Ryan Rollins contributed 22. AJ Green, who scored 11 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter, provided key scoring during the critical stretch of the game.
"It was a hell of a win," said Bucks head coach Doc Rivers. "We got down early, missed some open shots, and just couldn’t get anything to fall. Then Giannis gets hurt… but to fight back like that, it really shows a lot about this team."
Despite the loss, Detroit remains at the top of the Eastern Conference with a 13-5 record, while the Bucks are currently 10th.
Milwaukee initially feared that Antetokounmpo had strained his right calf, but the team is awaiting confirmation following an MRI scan.
Ahead of the game, ESPN had reported rumors that Antetokounmpo was “mulling his future” with the franchise, but Rivers dismissed any speculation about a possible trade, stating there had been “no conversations” regarding the issue.
In other NBA action, James Harden and Kawhi Leonard combined for 48 points to help the Los Angeles Clippers snap a five-game losing streak with a dominant 115-92 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. Meanwhile, Jamal Murray exploded for a season-high 52 points as the Denver Nuggets triumphed 135-120 over the Indiana Pacers in Indianapolis.
