The Ghanaian government has officially launched the *Accra Reset Secretariat*, a strategic initiative designed to influence the future of Africa and position Ghana as a leader in the continent’s progress.
Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Presidential Adviser and Special Aide, emphasized that the initiative aligns with a broader global movement toward regional cooperation. “For years, we’ve seen remarkable global progress driven by regional blocs, from the European Union to the G20 and the World Economic Forum,” she noted. “In Africa, institutions such as the African Union, ECOWAS, and BRICS have played crucial roles in shaping both global and continental agendas.”
The Accra Reset Secretariat is described as the brainchild of former President John Dramani Mahama, with strong backing from former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo. Mogtari highlighted the initiative’s timely relevance, especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and the numerous crises that have affected the continent.
“This initiative could not have come at a more critical time,” she said. “It aims to bring together visionary leaders to develop practical, homegrown solutions to Africa’s complex challenges.”
The core vision behind the Accra Reset, according to Mogtari, is to create a modern African platform that fosters collaboration among forward-thinking leaders to craft a sustainable roadmap for the continent’s future. “President Mahama’s vision is to ensure that future generations inherit a clear blueprint for progress, prosperity, and stability,” she explained.
The Accra Reset Secretariat will focus on the planning, proposing, and development of indigenous solutions for Africa’s unique challenges.
Mogtari also emphasized the crucial role of the Ghanaian government in driving this vision forward, stating, “A new chapter is beginning, one where Africa takes charge of its own destiny. Our government is proud to be at the forefront of this transformation.”
