Vice President Naana Opoku-Agyemang Calls for Increased Support for Women in Agribusiness

Vice President Dr. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has called on financial institutions to strengthen their support for women-led enterprises, particularly in the agribusiness and agro-processing sectors. Her remarks came after a meeting with representatives from ABSA Bank Ghana, where they discussed issues of inclusivity, SME development, and women’s empowerment in business.

In a social media post, the Vice President shared details of the meeting, stating that she was pleased with ABSA Bank’s ongoing commitment to supporting women in agribusiness. “I welcomed the team and appreciated their deliberate focus on women in agribusiness. I encouraged them to extend even greater support to women engaged in agro-processing, especially those involved in local production of oils within our communities,” she said.

Opoku-Agyemang emphasized that targeted financial support could help women entrepreneurs modernize their operations, increase productivity, and work with dignity. “Such support will empower these women to build confidence and elevate their businesses,” she added.

The Vice President also stressed the importance of empowering the youth and ensuring women have a greater voice in decision-making processes. “I urged the women present to be bold in advocating for their rights and making their voices heard in key decision-making spaces. Encouraging youth participation is also crucial as we work toward addressing national priorities,” Opoku-Agyemang noted.
