President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to rise above political divisions and work together in the spirit of unity and national development. In his New Year message delivered on January 1, 2026, the president emphasised that Ghana’s progress depends on collective effort, mutual respect, and a shared sense of national identity.
Addressing the nation, President Mahama stressed that development should transcend party politics, noting that all citizens are bound by a common destiny regardless of their political affiliations. He underscored that his leadership agenda is inclusive and aimed at uniting the country.
“Whether you voted for me or not, whether you supported the NDC or not, we are all Ghanaians, and this reset is for all of us. There is no NPP Ghana, CPP Ghana, or NDC Ghana; there is only one Ghana,” he stated.
The president further urged citizens to reject politics driven by division and party colours, reminding Ghanaians that the freedoms they enjoy today were earned through the sacrifices of the nation’s forebears. According to him, those who fought for independence envisioned a united country built on patriotism and shared responsibility.
“That is the Ghana our forebears fought for and shed their blood to secure our freedom. Let us reject the politics of division and embrace the patriotism of nation-building,” he added.
President Mahama’s message sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Ghanaians sharing their views on unity, governance, and national cohesion. While some praised his tone and delivery, commending his confidence and direct engagement with citizens, others raised concerns about past political actions and called for consistency between words and policy implementation.
Despite the mixed reactions, the New Year address has reignited public discussion on the importance of unity, accountability, and collective responsibility as Ghana moves forward in 2026.
