A Nigerian man has ignited widespread discussion on social media after sharing a controversial claim about marriage and divorce practices within the Jehovah’s Witness faith.
In a viral post on X (formerly Twitter), the man alleged that members of the religion are permitted to divorce only on the grounds of infidelity. According to him, reasons such as domestic abuse, persistent conflict, or irreconcilable differences are not recognized as valid grounds for divorce under the church’s teachings.
He further claimed that this rigid stance has, in some instances, produced troubling consequences. According to his account, some individuals allegedly engage in adultery deliberately in order to meet what the church considers the only acceptable condition for an “approved” divorce.
Describing the situation, he stated that it is deeply troubling that people may feel compelled to break their moral vows simply to exit marriages they find unbearable.
