Nigerian music icon Davido has achieved a significant milestone in his career by becoming the first living artist to grace the cover of RollingStone Africa magazine. This accomplishment comes as part of the promotional campaign for his highly anticipated fifth studio album, Five, set to drop on April 18, 2024.
At a recent listening party for the album, Davido revealed that Five will feature 13 collaborations, including appearances by renowned artists such as Victony, Musa Keys, and Victoria Monet. The album will also showcase guest features from YG Marley, who previously worked with Davido on the hit single Awuke, and Chike and OdumoduBlvck, who both joined him on the track Funds.
Additionally, Five is set to include collaborations with Adekunle Gold and Omah Lay, with Omah Lay describing the partnership as a perfect musical synergy in a recent interview.
During a live Twitch session with Nigerian alternative music star and content creator Cruel Santino, Davido offered a sneak peek of two tracks from the album. One of the songs, produced by long-time collaborator Shizzi, who played a pivotal role in Davido's early hits like Dami Duro, generated significant buzz. Davido also revealed that veteran producer Selebobo worked on one of the album's tracks.
Originally scheduled for release on March 15, 2024, the album's launch has now been postponed to April 18, 2024.
Davido's year has started on a high note, as he secured his fifth Grammy nomination at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, where he earned recognition for his contribution to Chris Brown's Sensational in the Best African Song Performance category. Additionally, Davido received five nominations, including Artist of the Year, at the upcoming 17th Headies Awards, further solidifying his status as one of the leading figures in the global music scene.
