Interior Minister Highlights Achievements in National Security and Public Service Reforms

Interior Minister Hon. Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka has outlined key achievements of the Ministry of the Interior during the first Government of Ghana Accountability Series held at Jubilee House in Accra on Monday, July 14, 2025.

Speaking at the inaugural session, the Minister described his presentation as a "comprehensive update" on recent accomplishments, focusing on national security, public service delivery, and legislative reforms.

Improved National Security

One of the significant achievements highlighted was the drastic reduction in curfew-imposed areas across the country. Minister Muntaka attributed this progress to effective stakeholder engagement and sustained peacebuilding efforts.

“We have successfully reduced the number of curfew-affected areas from 11 to 5. This reflects our commitment to dialogue, community engagement, and peacebuilding,” he said.

Legislative Reforms for Inclusivity

The Minister also emphasized the Ministry's role in championing legislative changes aimed at fostering inclusivity and reinforcing Ghana’s national identity. He cited amendments to the Public Holidays Act as a notable success.

“We led efforts to amend the Public Holidays Act, restoring July 1st as a national holiday and adding an additional day for Eid-ul-Fitr. These changes promote inclusiveness and preserve our national heritage,” Muntaka explained.

Embracing Digital Transformation

Further demonstrating the Ministry’s commitment to modernization, the Minister announced the launch of a digital transformation initiative aimed at improving service delivery.

“We have begun digitizing 16 core functions of the Ministry, including permits and license applications. This initiative is designed to improve transparency, reduce delays, and make our services more accessible to the public,” he revealed.

Government Accountability Series

The Accountability Series is a newly launched platform by the Government of Ghana to provide citizens with regular, transparent updates on the performance of ministries, departments, and agencies. The initiative aims to strengthen public trust through improved communication and reporting.
