A violent armed robbery at a gold buying shop in Teleku Bokazo, within the Ellembelle District of Ghana’s Western Region, has left one suspect dead and another in police custody. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
According to the Esiama District Police, a patrol team was dispatched immediately after receiving a distress call. Upon arrival, officers were informed that the robbers—believed to be six in number—had fled toward the nearby Salman community.
Police pursued the suspects, leading to an exchange of gunfire. During the chase, one of the assailants, identified as 34-year-old Abdul Rahman, sustained critical gunshot wounds. He was transported to St. Martin De Porres Hospital in Ekwie, where he later died from his injuries. Before his death, Rahman revealed the identities of several accomplices, including one named Mohammed.
Superintendent Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Regional Police Command, confirmed that Rahman's body has been deposited at the hospital morgue.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the attackers, armed with AK-47 rifles and machetes, stormed the gold shop and attacked staff. Two attendants were seriously injured during the assault. Samuel Appiah, 29, suffered a machete wound to his right thigh, while 45-year-old Kwamena Nketiah sustained gunshot wounds to both thighs. Both victims are receiving treatment at St. Martin De Porres Hospital.
On Friday, August 1, 2025, police arrested 25-year-old Mohammed Adamu, identified by the deceased suspect. He is currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
A search of the area where the suspects fled led to the recovery of several items, including:
- Seven spent AK-47 shell casings
- Eight live rounds of ammunition
- Two spent BB cartridges
- One empty BB cartridge casing
- Two motorbike keys
The Western Regional Police Command has assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that all remaining suspects will be pursued and brought to justice.
