Ghana Premier League side Dreams FC has earned a major boost in reputation, climbing to 26th place in the latest CAF Club Rankings following their impressive debut campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Nicknamed the Still Believe lads, Dreams FC accumulated 12 points after a remarkable run to the semi-finals of the 2023/24 edition of the competition. Despite falling to Egyptian giants Zamalek with a 3-0 aggregate defeat—after an admirable goalless draw in Cairo—their journey marked a historic milestone. They became the first Ghanaian team to reach the last four of the Confederation Cup since the tournament's inception two decades ago.
Their outstanding performance makes Dreams FC the only Ghanaian club currently ranked in CAF’s top 50.
Meanwhile, Medeama SC also received recognition, securing the 51st spot with four points. The Tarkwa-based club made its CAF Champions League group stage debut but failed to progress beyond the group phase. Nevertheless, their participation helped raise Ghana's club football profile on the continental stage.
Notably, Ghana’s traditional powerhouses—Asante Kotoko, winners of the 1983 African Cup of Champions Clubs, and Hearts of Oak, champions of the 2004 CAF Confederation Cup—were absent from the updated rankings.
Top 3 in CAF Club Rankings:
- Al Ahly (Egypt)
- Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa)
- Espérance de Tunis (Tunisia)
Both Dreams FC and Medeama’s inclusion signals a potential turning point for Ghanaian clubs in continental football, especially as they challenge the dominance of more established North and Southern African sides.
