Kennedy Agyapong Blames NDC for the Death of Ernest Kumi

In a recent statement, Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central and a flagbearer aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of playing a significant role in the death of Ernest Kumi, the late Member of Parliament for Akwatia. Agyapong made these remarks during a speech at a gathering in Anyinam.

Agyapong revealed that he had engaged in personal discussions with Kumi, during which the late MP confided in him about the overwhelming stress he was under. According to Agyapong, the pressure faced by Kumi, which he claimed was largely instigated by the NDC, contributed to his untimely death.

“The stress and pressure Ernest went through were unbearable, and I can confidently say that it was caused by the NDC,” Agyapong asserted. He further criticized the NDC for their decision to contest in the upcoming by-election in Akwatia, calling their actions “shameless” given their alleged role in causing Kumi’s distress.

This statement comes amidst heightened political tension as the NPP and NDC gear up for the Akwatia by-election following Kumi’s sudden passing. Agyapong, known for his forthright and unfiltered style, used the opportunity to rally support for the NPP as they prepare for what is expected to be a contentious race.

The Akwatia by-election has garnered significant national attention, not only because of Kumi’s unexpected death but also due to the growing political rivalry between the two major parties. As the NPP seeks to retain the seat, the NDC’s involvement in the contest is sure to intensify the political battle in the region.

Former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has taken legal action against the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), seeking an injunction to prevent the agency from continuing to label him as a “wanted person” or “fugitive from justice.” This legal move comes after Ofori-Atta's image and personal details were publicly displayed on the OSP's official social media pages, despite earlier assurances made in a letter dated February 18, 2025. In a motion filed by his legal team, Ofori-Atta argues that the OSP's actions violate the principles of administrative justice, specifically the right to a fair process and the protection of his personal dignity.
