The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has voiced its disappointment following the outcome of the recent Akwatia by-election. In a formal statement delivered after the Electoral Commission proclaimed the results, the party spokesperson acknowledged the defeat but expressed their dissatisfaction with both the election results and the circumstances surrounding them.
"We are a bit disappointed because the results were not what we expected," said the spokesperson. "However, the constituents have spoken, and we accept the outcome in good faith." He added that the party feels a sense of personal disappointment, noting the dedication of the candidate who had tirelessly worked to restore his honor and dignity to the people of Akwatia.
The spokesperson reflected on the challenges faced during the campaign, particularly following the Supreme Court's initial ruling, which complicated the situation further. "At one point, we were hopeful after the candidate had done everything to maintain his seat, but the legal hurdles, including the pending decision from the Koforidua court, made it a difficult race," he said.
Despite the setback, the NPP has pledged to continue engaging with the Akwatia constituency and work towards better serving the people in future elections.
