The Director of Legal Affairs of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has cautioned the public against rushing to condemn the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asutifi North, Hon. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, who has been accused of leading a group of thugs to attack soldiers of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) in the Ahafo Region last Saturday.
Mr. Tameklo, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), emphasized the importance of fairness, insisting that the MP should be allowed to present his side of the story before any judgment is made.
Hon. Addo is alleged to have claimed that he acted on the instructions of his colleague, the MP for Asutifi South, to disrupt and attack the soldiers. The allegation has sparked widespread public outrage, with many Ghanaians calling for his arrest.
However, Mr. Tameklo urged restraint, warning that the circulating reports could be misleading.
“It is only fair that we hear the side of the first-time MP before we condemn him. Decency requires that. He must be given the opportunity to explain what happened. I have seen very respected people on Facebook delete their posts after realizing the reports were misleading,” he stated.
Meanwhile, several other NDC members have publicly condemned the alleged actions of the MP, calling for thorough investigations into the incident.
