The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) PLC has commended the government’s agricultural initiatives aimed at strengthening food security and advancing national development, reaffirming its commitment to providing the necessary support for their successful implementation.
The statement was made by Professor Ferdinand Ahiakpor, Deputy Managing Director (DMD Services) of ADB, on behalf of Managing Director Edward Ato Sarpong, during the 16th National Farmers’ Forum on Thursday, December 4, 2025, in Ho, Volta Region, as part of the National Farmers’ Day celebrations.
This year’s forum featured presentations from ADB, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), and the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development (MoFA), among other key stakeholders.
In his address, Professor Ahiakpor emphasised ADB’s readiness to work in close partnership with the government to implement several strategic initiatives designed to accelerate the country’s economic transformation. Among these initiatives, he highlighted key programs such as the Oil Palm Development Finance Window, the creation of Farmers' Service Centers, and the Women and Youth in Aquaculture Programme. Additionally, ADB is set to strengthen the government’s efforts through increased financing for the National Food Buffer Stock Company to facilitate the collection of excess produce from farmers nationwide.
“These interventions are intended to increase agricultural production, expand agribusiness opportunities, and safeguard the stability of our national food systems,” Prof. Ahiakpor noted.
The bank is also committed to boosting investments in critical agricultural inputs and infrastructure, including fertilizers, seeds, agrochemicals, warehouses, agro-processing facilities, and irrigation systems—all designed to enhance productivity and build a more resilient agricultural sector, he added.
As part of its ongoing commitment, Prof. Ahiakpor announced that ADB’s Agribusiness Division will intensify its collaboration with MOFA, MoFA, and other relevant agencies to develop practical frameworks for the smooth and effective execution of these projects.
“Our willingness to partner with the government is aligned with ADB’s broader mission to enhance agricultural productivity and improve food security across the country,” he stressed.
In a related development, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, launched the Feed Ghana Programme (FGP) Policy Document during the forum. The FGP, which is the flagship initiative under the broader Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA), aims to modernize agriculture, create jobs, reduce food inflation, and foster agro-industrial development. Key components of the policy include prioritizing critical agricultural commodities such as maize, rice, and cocoa, and implementing targeted interventions to promote smart farming practices.
The introduction of Farmers’ Service Centres, designed to provide mechanization services and technical support, is also a cornerstone of the strategy aimed at empowering local farmers.
Additionally, Kwame Asiedu Attrams, ADB's General Manager in charge of Agribusiness, presented insights on sustainable financing as a vital factor in transforming the agricultural sector.
The forum was attended by various dignitaries, including ADB’s Deputy Managing Director in charge of Operations, Mrs. Sylvia Naa Kwakai Nyante; Volta Regional Minister Hon. James Gunu; award winners; and representatives from ADB, MOFA, and MoFA, as well as other industry leaders and stakeholders.
