Fifi Kwetey Refutes Claims of NDC Plot to Abolish OSP, Calls for Greater Party Coordination

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has dismissed recent claims suggesting a plot within the party to scrap the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). Describing these allegations as unfounded and misleading, Kwetey clarified that the issue arose from internal procedural missteps, rather than any deliberate attempt to undermine the anti-corruption office.

Speaking on Joy News’ *PM Express* on December 18, 2025, Kwetey referred to President John Dramani Mahama’s intervention, which called for the withdrawal of the proposal, as proof that the party does not support such a move. "You heard what the President actually said, that they should withdraw it," he explained. He also commended the leadership of the NDC in Parliament, stating that they had performed well so far in addressing the matter.

However, Kwetey stressed that parliamentary leaders must recognize their role within the broader party framework. "The majority leader, the chief whip, they are doing a great job so far. But they need to understand that they are not working independently. They are part of the party," he added.

The General Secretary revealed that the party’s national leadership had not been consulted prior to the actions that sparked the controversy. "Clearly, we were not consulted," he said, cautioning that unilateral decisions could create unnecessary tensions between the executive and the legislature.

Kwetey urged for better coordination within the party to prevent situations that force the President to intervene publicly. "The point I’m making is, don’t do things that will force the President to come and say no. Work as an organ. Work together," he advised.

He concluded by stating that the matter had been resolved internally, and he had no intention of escalating the issue publicly. "I’ve already said this privately, and I’ve told them. As for the public, that’s all I can say," Kwetey remarked.

This statement comes amid growing discussions surrounding the OSP and its role in Ghana's fight against corruption.
