Four Killed in Christmas Eve Road Crash at Twifo Ntafrewaso

Four people lost their lives on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025, following a tragic road accident at Twifo Ntafrewaso on the Cape Coast–Twifo Praso highway.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Twifo Praso Fire Station received a distress call at approximately 4:48 p.m. reporting that a Hyundai Getz taxi had veered off the road. A rescue team was immediately dispatched to the scene, where they found the vehicle completely wrecked after crashing into a tree.

Preliminary reports indicated that the taxi was travelling from Twifo Mampong toward Twifo Praso. Fire officers worked to extricate three occupants who were trapped in the vehicle and rushed them to the hospital. Sadly, all three were pronounced dead on arrival. A fourth occupant had earlier been rescued by passers-by and taken to the Twifo Praso Government Hospital, where that person was also confirmed dead.

In a statement released on December 25, 2025, the GNFS attributed the crash to overspeeding under rainy conditions. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while navigating a steep curve. Eyewitnesses corroborated that the taxi was moving at high speed before it veered off the road.

“The Hyundai Getz taxi, travelling from Twifo Mampong towards Twifo Praso, veered off the road and crashed into a tree. Eyewitnesses attributed the crash to overspeeding on a curve amid rainy conditions. The vehicle was completely wrecked. We urge motorists to avoid overspeeding, especially on curves, and to strictly adhere to road safety regulations, particularly during the festive season,” the statement said.

Further reports revealed that the occupants of the vehicle were rushing an unconscious woman to the Twifo Praso Government Hospital. The woman had reportedly slipped while fetching water at Twifo Mampong, hit her head on a stone, and lost consciousness, prompting the hurried journey.

The incident has plunged communities within the Twifo enclave into mourning. Meanwhile, the police have launched investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.

The tragic accident has once again sparked public concern over road safety, particularly excessive speeding during festive periods, with many calling for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life.
