Former TV3 investigative journalist Godwin Asediba has attracted nationwide attention after announcing his appointment with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), following his departure from Media General.
In a Facebook post dated December 31, 2025, Asediba—an award-winning journalist and recipient of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Journalist of the Year honour—confirmed that he has joined BBC News’ flagship programme, Focus on Africa. The announcement was met with widespread congratulatory messages from media colleagues, professionals, and the general public, who praised the milestone as a significant step in his journalism career.
“I am excited to begin my role as a journalist with BBC News | Focus on Africa, bringing depth, context, and fresh perspectives to African storytelling. Grateful and ready,” Asediba wrote.
His appointment comes shortly after he officially ended his tenure with Media General, the parent company of TV3 Ghana, where he worked as an investigative journalist, producer, and news anchor. Asediba joined Media General in September 2022 after leaving the EIB Network and quickly distinguished himself as one of the country’s most impactful investigative reporters.
Throughout his time at Media General, he received several accolades in recognition of his work. In 2023, he was named Documentary TV Reporter of the Year at the 27th GJA Awards and later won Health Reporter of the Year at the 28th GJA Awards. His excellence in African storytelling was further recognised in 2025 when he won the prestigious BBC News Komla Dumor Award, which included a three-month placement with the BBC. He capped these achievements by being named Journalist of the Year at the 29th GJA Awards.
On December 26, Asediba announced his exit from Media General in a reflective message, describing his years at TV3, 3FM, and 3news.com as a formative and defining period in his professional journey. He expressed gratitude to management and colleagues for their support, mentorship, and collaboration during his three-year tenure.
Beyond professional recognition, Asediba’s journalism has had a measurable social impact. In April 2024, his investigative report on a two-year-old boy who sustained severe injuries from a dog attack drew national attention and support, leading to life-saving surgeries for the child. In appreciation, the boy’s family later named their second child after him, underscoring the profound human impact of his work.
Godwin Asediba’s transition to the BBC represents a major milestone for both his career and Ghanaian journalism, as he continues to elevate African stories on a global platform.
