Hospitality Is the Key to a Successful “December in GH” – Abeiku Santana

Abeiku Santana has highlighted the pivotal role of Ghana’s hospitality sector in ensuring the success of the 2024 “December in GH” celebrations. Speaking in an interview with Joy Prime’s KMJ, monitored by MyNewsGh, he stated clearly that the success of the festive season “rests on hospitality.”

According to him, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has been engaging extensively with key industry stakeholders including hotels, restaurants, tour operators, car rental services, and hospitality associations. He explained that these groups are the first points of contact for visitors, making it essential that they are well-prepared and properly oriented.

“When you go to a hotel and you are welcomed with a smile, it’s not the government doing that. Yet one satisfied customer can bring ten more,” Santana said. He stressed that while tourism may be led by the public sector, “it is private-sector driven.”

Santana also revealed that the GTA has partnered with the Hotel, Catering and Hospitality Institute and the Hotel Association of Ghana to enhance service delivery throughout the festive season.

Addressing concerns about seasonal price increases, he reassured the public that prices remain stable. “Inflation has dropped to 6%, and this year we have not seen arbitrary price hikes,” he said, adding that major hospitality operators have maintained their rates ahead of the celebrations.

He acknowledged, however, that airfare costs continue to pose challenges. Nonetheless, he announced a major development expected to ease travel for the diaspora: “For the first time in 13 years, Atlanta now has a direct flight to Accra.” He described this as a significant boost to holiday travel and tourism.
