President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of Germany is set to embark on a three-day official visit to Ghana from Sunday, November 2 to Tuesday, November 4, 2025, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
A statement issued by Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Presidential Spokesman and Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, confirmed that the official engagements will begin on Monday, November 3, with a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the Forecourt of the Jubilee House in Accra.
Strengthening Ghana–Germany Relations
Following the welcoming ceremony, President Steinmeier and his host, President John Dramani Mahama, will hold a private meeting, followed by bilateral discussions involving members of both delegations in the Credentials Room.
According to the statement, the talks will focus on deepening cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, technology, and development partnership — key pillars in Ghana’s longstanding relationship with Germany.
A State Luncheon will later be hosted in honour of President Steinmeier and his delegation at the Presidential Banquet Hall.
Honouring Ghana’s History and Youth
In the afternoon, President Steinmeier will undertake a guided tour of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, where he will lay a wreath at the tomb of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, in recognition of Ghana’s historic role in Africa’s independence movement.
The German President will also interact with young Ghanaian IT professionals, highlighting Germany’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s growing digital economy. His day will conclude with a reception at the German Ambassador’s Residence in Accra.
Visit to the Ashanti Region
On the third and final day of his visit, President Steinmeier will travel to Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, where he will break ground for a new facility at the Kumasi Technical Institute.
While in Kumasi, he is expected to engage with the Vice-Chancellor, staff, and alumni of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and visit the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research — a key institution promoting Ghana–Germany scientific partnerships.
The visit will conclude with a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace, before President Steinmeier departs Ghana on Tuesday evening, November 4, 2025.
Diplomatic Significance
This visit underscores Germany’s growing diplomatic and economic engagement with Ghana and West Africa, reflecting both nations’ shared commitment to sustainable development, education, and innovation.
