A viral video has stirred widespread discussion after a landlord reportedly cleared out the belongings of a tenant who was allegedly kidnapped months earlier during a trip to his village in Imo State.
The video, posted by @ChuksEricE on X (formerly Twitter), shows the tenant’s personal items arranged outside the compound. Neighbours in the clip explained that the tenant had been missing for an extended period and that no family member or friend had come forward to renew his rent.
According to reports, the landlord gave additional months of grace but eventually decided to vacate the apartment to make room for new tenants.
The footage left many social media users divided. While some commenters sympathized with the landlord’s financial constraints, others criticized the decision as insensitive, given that the tenant’s whereabouts remain unknown.
One viewer wrote, “This is heartbreaking. What if the person returns?” Another added, “Landlords don’t send anybody again. The economy is too hard.”
The incident has triggered a broader conversation about how Nigerian landlords handle cases involving missing tenants and the balance between compassion and property rights.
