Martin Kpebu has strongly refuted claims made by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng regarding the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), National Security, and the Immigration Service allegedly refusing to assist in preventing a former minister from leaving Ghana.
Kpebu described the allegations as “false, damaging, and unacceptable,” stressing that the NIB's formal response directly contradicted Agyebeng’s narrative.
“The NIB has officially stated that there was no formal request. This clears up the matter entirely,” Kpebu asserted.
He explained that his own letter to the NIB had sought clarification on whether the OSP had “formally requested assistance to arrest former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.” The Bureau's reply confirmed that no such request had been made. “Whether oral or written, the crucial fact is that no record of cooperation was requested. That settles it,” he said.
Kpebu added that Agyebeng’s comments have tarnished the reputation of Ghana’s intelligence agencies. “He has undermined the NIB. That is disreputable. This is an institution that has long commanded respect. Now look at the public reaction,” Kpebu said.
The lawyer expressed his expectation that the parliamentary committee considering his upcoming petition would call KSM as a witness.
“The original video will be needed for authenticity. He made these claims publicly,” Kpebu emphasized.
He further warned that if other security agencies also refute Agyebeng’s statements, the controversy will escalate. “Even if just one agency disproves him, it still causes significant damage. If all three agencies contradict him, his position will become even more untenable.”
