The Unit Commander of the Airport Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), DSP Frederick Oko, has reiterated that most road accidents in Ghana are the result of human error, not supernatural forces.
In an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on OTEC FM in Kumasi, DSP Oko cautioned the public against attributing Christmas-season road crashes to witches or Satan. He stressed that irresponsible driving habits remain the dominant cause of accidents.
“Accidents do not happen because of Satan. Most of them are due to human errors,” he said. “While mechanical faults and other issues can contribute, the overwhelming majority of incidents occur because of the actions and decisions of drivers.”
DSP Oko noted that Ghana could drastically reduce its accident rates if motorists committed to correcting unsafe behaviors. He urged drivers to avoid speeding, wrongful overtaking, overloading, and other dangerous practices that put lives at risk.
He called for increased caution during the festive season and emphasized that road safety is a shared responsibility that starts with each driver.
