Ghanaian business mogul and Chief Executive Officer of Despite Media Group, Dr Osei Kwame Despite, has finally spoken publicly after months of persistent rumours linking him to occult practices. The allegations, which gained traction on social media, emerged amid controversies surrounding the family of the late highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.
The rumours surfaced following public disputes between Daddy Lumba’s two legal wives, Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni. Due to Despite’s well-known friendship with the late musician, some individuals attempted to draw his name into the controversy, spreading unsubstantiated claims and false narratives about his success and personal life.
Known for his quiet and reserved nature, Dr Despite said he decided to speak out because the accusations had gone too far. In a rare audio recording that circulated online, he expressed disappointment over the stories being told about him.
“Sometimes what I hear about myself on social media leaves me in disbelief,” he said. “I ask myself whether they are really talking about me.”
Addressing speculation about his wealth, Dr Despite highlighted his extensive business ventures, particularly his salt production enterprise, which spans approximately 700 acres and employs over 600 workers daily. He questioned why his financial success was being misinterpreted as something sinister.
“When I earn money through hard work, what is wrong with that?” he asked. “Why should it be a problem if I buy a car or live comfortably?”
He also spoke about his philanthropic efforts, including blood donation campaigns organised through his media platforms to support the Ghana National Blood Service. According to him, it is painful that such positive contributions are often overshadowed by unfounded allegations.
“I am not a bad person,” he emphasised. “I am not involved in any occult practices. I have worked tirelessly for many years, and my success is the result of dedication, discipline, and honest labour.”
In addition to the occultism claims, Dr Despite addressed rumours suggesting he was backing one side in the ongoing dispute between Daddy Lumba’s widows. He categorically denied the allegations, stating that he has no interest or involvement in the family feud and is not supporting any faction.
Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, passed away on July 26, 2025, an event that triggered a legal battle between his two wives over his estate. Despite urged the public to refrain from dragging his name into matters that do not concern him.
Through his statement, Dr Osei Kwame Despite hopes to clear his name and encourage Ghanaians to rely on facts rather than gossip. His message underscores the importance of recognising hard work, integrity, and philanthropy, while cautioning against turning success into baseless speculation.
