The Paramount Chief of the Ntrubo North Traditional Area in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region, Nana Obirikitibi Amnadu Okordie, has announced a new directive prohibiting schoolchildren from being outside after 9 p.m. The initiative aims to promote safety, enhance academic focus, and protect the well-being of children in the community.
The chief made the announcement during the 2025 Kedeesa Festival, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding children from risks such as abduction, exploitation, and accidents. He also noted that adequate rest and study time are essential for the academic success of young learners.
This year’s Kedeesa Festival drew thousands of participants and featured performances by the Obirikitibi cultural group, local artists, and a football gala, all celebrating the area’s vibrant cultural heritage.
Nana Obirikitibi called on parents and guardians to fully support and enforce the directive, describing child protection as a shared responsibility. The policy has received widespread approval from parents, teachers, and community leaders.
Addressing recent tensions in the area, the chief appealed for peace and discouraged individuals who fuel conflict. He stressed that no one benefits from violence and urged all parties to prioritize dialogue and development.
During the event, Nkwanta South Member of Parliament Geoffrey Kini cautioned young people against the rising misuse of illicit drugs, describing it as a major threat to their future. He also outlined plans to rehabilitate damaged roads linking Ntrubo communities and to improve other essential infrastructure. He encouraged residents to maintain confidence in him and the government as they work to enhance development in the region.
