Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has alleged that a wealthy Nigerian family lost both a loved one and a substantial sum of money after relying on faith-based healing for a terminal cancer case.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, Kuti recounted that the family turned to spiritual intervention after medical professionals abroad reportedly informed them that the patient’s condition was beyond further treatment. According to him, the woman was subsequently taken to the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) camp, where prayers and other religious activities were carried out with assurances of recovery.
Kuti claimed that despite prolonged prayers and spiritual efforts, the woman passed away at the camp, leaving her family devastated. He further alleged that the family spent approximately $250,000 in the course of seeking divine healing, motivated by hope for a miraculous recovery.
The singer criticised what he described as the promotion of faith healing in cases of terminal illness, arguing that such practices can foster false hope and leave families emotionally and financially unprepared for loss.
In his account, Kuti also alleged that following the woman’s death, Pastor Enoch Adeboye instructed the family to stop mourning and promised to pray for her resurrection. He claimed the pastor asked the family to kneel beside the body for an hour while he prayed privately, after which the woman did not revive and the family was asked to return home.
It is important to note that these claims are based solely on Seun Kuti’s statements, and no independent verification or official response from the individuals or institutions mentioned has been made public at the time of reporting.
