Activist Verydarkman has shared details of a private encounter he had with former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, following reports of Musa’s nomination as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence by President Bola Tinubu.
In a video posted online, the activist narrated that he was once invited by military authorities after he publicly criticised General Musa’s comments regarding the Yelwata massacre in Benue State.
The Yelwata Attack
According to Verydarkman, violent assaults carried out by suspected herdsmen on June 14, 2025, claimed numerous lives in Yelwata, Benue State.
He stated that he visited the community the following day, witnessing the destruction firsthand and documenting graphic evidence. His footage quickly went viral and drew widespread attention, prompting government response.
However, after General Musa granted a televised interview about the incident, Verydarkman publicly disagreed with his remarks. Two days later, he was informed that the Army was searching for him.
The Meeting with General Musa
He recalled being taken to a military base in Asokoro, where he unexpectedly came face to face with the then–Chief of Defence Staff.
“When the door opened, I saw Christopher Musa — the same man I had criticised online,” he said.
According to him, General Musa dismissed everyone else from the room before saying, “I need your help.”
He explained that the General requested detailed information about what he witnessed in Yelwata, as well as any intelligence he had gathered. Verydarkman stated that he had already been communicating with individuals familiar with the longstanding conflict involving Fulani groups and had obtained video evidence from them.
He described Musa as a leader open to credible information from any source:
“For a Chief of Defence Staff to call Verydarkman to his house and say, ‘I need your help,’ it shows he genuinely wanted solutions. There was no pride.”
A video of his narration was also shared on his Instagram page.
