Breaking: Abosso Shooting: Police Meet Victim’s Family, Expedite Autopsy Process

The Western Central Regional Police Command has confirmed that it is expediting the autopsy of 18-year-old Sambo Usman, who was fatally shot during a police operation at Abosso on December 31, 2025, to enable the timely release of his body to his family.

Speaking to Citi News on Saturday, January 3, 2026, the Deputy Commander of the Western Central Regional Police Command, ACP Bismark Agyapong, stated that the Ghana Police Service had no intention of harming civilians. He emphasized that the core mandate of the Service is to protect lives and property.

ACP Agyapong conveyed the police administration’s condolences to the bereaved family and assured them that all necessary procedures were being fast-tracked to allow the family to take possession of the body for burial.

“We have met with the family, expressed our condolences, and we are doing everything possible to ensure that the processes are completed quickly so that the family can receive the body and the necessary actions can be taken,” he said.

He also cautioned the public against interfering with police operations, particularly those targeting criminal activities and drug trafficking. According to him, such interference could put both civilians and police officers at risk and compromise ongoing security efforts.

The shooting occurred during an intelligence-led operation aimed at curbing criminal activity and drug peddling in the Abosso area. ACP Agyapong noted that the operation was conducted under tense circumstances, which ultimately resulted in the fatal shooting of the teenager.

Following the incident, tensions rose within the community, with some residents expressing anger over the killing. In response, the police engaged community leaders and other stakeholders to help calm the situation and restore order.
