Fatal Road Accident on Assin Fosu–Kumasi Highway Claims Two Lives, Injures 21

A tragic road accident on the Assin Fosu–Kumasi highway has resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left 21 others injured following a collision involving a bus transporting church members.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:00 p.m. on January 1, as a bus carrying members of the Believers Worship Centre was returning from a New Year’s Eve crossover service in Kumasi to Assin Fosu and Breman Asikuma. The bus, branded with Methodist Wesley Church signage and owned by the Believers Worship Centre, reportedly collided with a crowd participating in a street parade at Assin Dansame.

According to Citi News, the deceased include a 21-year-old apprentice and a student of Sunyani Technical University, identified as Maame Yaa. Twenty-one other passengers and bystanders sustained injuries of varying severity and were transported to multiple hospitals across the Central Region for treatment.

The accident sparked anger among local residents, leading to the vandalisation of the bus. Police officers were deployed to the scene to restore order and ensure public safety.

Confirming the incident, ASP Wonder Lumor, Central North Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), stated that investigations have been launched to determine the cause of the crash.

The Believers Worship Centre has recently attracted public attention due to controversies surrounding its activities. Prior to the accident, the church’s Watch Night service reportedly caused significant traffic congestion along parts of the Kumasi–Accra highway, prompting public frustration.

In a separate report by YEN.com.gh, the church’s leader, Adom Kyei-Duah, drew criticism for allegedly encouraging members to sell their properties and follow him, claiming that doing so would bring blessings and foster a simpler, more purposeful lifestyle.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident as the injured receive medical care and affected families mourn their losses.
