Ken Agyapong Urges Peace and Unity Ahead of NPP Presidential Primaries

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a presidential flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for peace and unity as the party prepares for its presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.

The former Member of Parliament for Assin North made the appeal on Friday, January 2, 2026, while addressing worshippers at the Ken’s National Praise 2026 event. He urged Ghanaians, particularly members of the NPP, to reject violence, bitterness, and division before, during, and after the party’s internal elections.

Mr Agyapong emphasised that leadership is divinely ordained and must be grounded in unity rather than discord. He stressed that regardless of the outcome of the primaries, maintaining cohesion within the party and the nation should remain a paramount priority.

“As a people and as a party, we are entering an important election season,” he said. “Our prayer is simple: peace before the election, peace during the election, and peace after the election. No violence, no bitterness, no division. Leadership comes from God, not from chaos. When God leads, peace follows. Whatever the outcome, unity must remain. Elections will pass, but unity must endure.”

He explained that the Ken’s National Praise 2026 event was organised to express gratitude to God for His mercy and protection over Ghana and its people, especially in light of the economic and social challenges the country has faced over the past year.

Mr Agyapong’s remarks generated mixed reactions on social media following the event. While some users welcomed his message of peace and unity, others expressed scepticism, citing past controversies and questioning the sincerity of his appeal.

Despite the varied responses, his call adds to the growing appeals for calm, tolerance, and responsible conduct as the NPP approaches a critical phase of its internal electoral process.
