Popular Nigerian Chef Victoria Agu (Chef Vicky) Reportedly Dies in Lagos Boat Accident


 

Popular Nigerian chef and social media influencer Victoria Agu, widely known as Chef Vicky, has reportedly died following a tragic boat accident in Lagos, a development that has sparked widespread grief across social media.

Chef Vicky, the founder of Sweet Pot Nigeria, a luxury private dining and catering service, was identified as one of six victims who lost their lives after a passenger boat capsized on the Igbologun Water Channel on December 30, 2025. The incident reportedly occurred while the vessel was returning from Ilashe Beach House on Lagos Island.

According to reports shared by Nigerian blog Gistreel on January 2, Chef Vicky was among those confirmed dead at the scene. In a Facebook post announcing the tragedy, the blog described her as a highly admired culinary professional celebrated for her expertise in both local and international cuisines.

“The culinary world mourns as Victoria Agu is confirmed among the victims of a recent boat mishap in Lagos. Widely admired for her mastery of both local and international cuisines, the talented chef had only just introduced her own spice line. Her passing has left friends, colleagues, and loved ones heartbroken,” the post read.

Details of the Accident

In a joint statement, the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) and the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) disclosed that the accident occurred at approximately 8:35 p.m. Authorities said the Savvy Marine passenger boat collided with a submerged object, causing it to capsize.

Emergency responders rescued four passengers, while six others were confirmed dead at the scene. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Who Was Chef Vicky?

Chef Vicky was the Chief Executive Officer of Sweet Pot Kitchen, a brand known for providing luxury private chef services, high-end brunches, buffets, and exclusive events for elite clients. She also operated SPK Meals, a food delivery service that specialised in homemade Nigerian dishes.

With over 53,000 followers on Instagram, Chef Vicky had built a strong online presence and was admired for her creativity, professionalism, and passion for food. Only weeks before her death, she launched Chef V’s Spices, expanding her brand within the culinary industry.

Tragically, Chef Vicky was working on the day of the accident. Her final social media post, shared on December 30, showed her catering a private family event. The video, set to Celebration by Kool & The Gang and geotagged Lagos Island, is believed to have been recorded shortly before she began her return journey.

Following news of her death, fans and colleagues flooded the comments section with tributes, prayers, and expressions of sorrow, reflecting the deep impact she had on the culinary and digital communities.

Chef Vicky’s untimely death has left a significant void in Nigeria’s food and lifestyle space, with many remembering her as a hardworking entrepreneur who was passionately building her legacy.
