Defence Minister, Dr. Omane Boamah, has strongly criticized the Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee in Parliament, Rev. Ntim Fordjour, following his recent allegations regarding drug trafficking in Ghana.
At a recent press conference, Rev. Fordjour claimed that Ghana had become a significant hub for drug trafficking since the National Democratic Congress (NDC) came to power. In response, President John Dramani Mahama, in a statement shared via social media, confirmed that the National Investigations Bureau had seized a substantial cocaine shipment valued at $350 million. The President also instructed security agencies to collaborate with Rev. Fordjour to address the claims he made during his press conference.
However, Dr. Omane Boamah, in a social media post, refuted Rev. Fordjour's allegations, labeling them as false. The Minister attributed the accusations to a personal vendetta against the Mahama administration rather than any factual basis. He called on Rev. Fordjour to retract his statements, urging him to repent for spreading falsehoods.
"Rev. Ntim Fordjour, Repent! Your Lies Will Not Stand!" Boamah wrote. He continued by accusing Rev. Fordjour of making reckless and unfounded allegations driven by a deep-seated disdain for President Mahama's government and a desire to gain favor with more extreme factions within his party.
The Defence Minister further questioned how a Reverend, who is expected to uphold truth and integrity, could resort to sensationalism and smear tactics in politics. He called on Rev. Fordjour to seek out the truth before making public statements, adding that video evidence had already exposed the inaccuracies in the claims about aircrafts that Fordjour had previously made.
Dr. Boamah concluded his statement by calling on Rev. Fordjour to repent and correct his actions.
