Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to renew their commitment to the party’s foundational principles of unity and inclusiveness, following its loss in the 2024 general elections.
Addressing delegates at the NPP’s National Annual Delegates Conference held in Accra on Saturday, July 19, 2025, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the need for cohesion as the party enters a new phase of renewal and strategic repositioning.
“In times like these, we must prioritize strengthening our unity and reinvesting in the ties that bind us,” he stated. “Our foundation has always been anchored in togetherness. That is where our strength lies.”
Dr. Bawumia highlighted the NPP’s longstanding tradition of inclusivity, describing it as a political family that embraces diversity across ethnic, religious, and socio-economic lines.
“We are a party that has offered hope to the most diverse segments of our population,” he noted. “It has never mattered whether you are Sefwi, Fante, Ewe, Ashanti, Ga-Dangbe, Krobo, Dagomba, Wala, Dagaati, Konkomba, Frafra, or Mamprusi. Nor has it mattered what religion you practice—Christianity, Islam, or traditional African beliefs. Whether you are rich or poor, educated or not, you have a place in this party.”
His remarks come at a pivotal moment as the NPP undergoes internal restructuring aimed at restoring its public image and preparing for future electoral contests. Delegates responded positively to Dr. Bawumia’s address, echoing his call for renewed unity and strategic focus.
