Accra, Ghana – Ghana's security agencies made significant strides in the fight against drug trafficking and illegal resource trade in June 2025, with the interception of large quantities of illicit substances and contraband.
According to Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) seized 1,192 kilograms of cocaine, 90 kilograms of cannabis, and 17.9 kilograms of gold bars during operations at key entry and exit points across the country. The interceptions occurred at Tema Port, Kotoka International Airport, the Paga Border, and Oyarifa.
These seizures are part of the government’s broader strategy to disrupt transnational drug networks and protect Ghana’s borders from illegal trade.
Speaking on Monday, July 14, Minister Mubarak commended the vigilance of the security forces. “The Narcotics Control Commission has intensified its fight against drug trafficking and is working actively to safeguard public health and national security,” he said.
While the minister did not disclose details on arrests or the status of ongoing investigations, he emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing border surveillance and law enforcement efforts to prevent future smuggling attempts.
In addition to the border interceptions, NACOC conducted seven targeted operations in locations including Akosombo, Takoradi, and Madina. These raids have contributed to a notable reduction in the street-level distribution of illegal drugs.
Minister Mubarak reaffirmed the government’s resolve to strengthen institutional capacity and law enforcement frameworks in order to maintain public safety and uphold national security.
