A newborn baby has been rescued alive after being abandoned in a public latrine at Kawmeduakrom, located in the Obuasi East District of Ghana. The dramatic incident unfolded late on the evening of Sunday, July 20, 2025.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), a distress call was received around 10:30 p.m. The GNFS promptly dispatched a rescue team to the scene. Divisional Officer Grade Two (DO2) Peter Addai confirmed to Citi News that the team, led by Station Officer II Appiah Kubi, arrived swiftly and executed a delicate rescue operation.
Using an extension ladder, officers carefully descended into the latrine and successfully retrieved the baby by 11:31 p.m. Remarkably, the baby was found alive and is now receiving medical care at the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital (A.G.A.) in Obuasi.
The rescue has sparked widespread public reaction, with many praising the professionalism and urgency shown by the fire service team.
