Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III Passes Away at 98

The Asante Kingdom is in mourning following the death of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, at the age of 98. She was the revered Queen Mother and the second-highest authority in Asanteman.

Her passing was officially communicated to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, by the Oyoko Family during an emergency meeting of the Asanteman Traditional Council on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Born Nana Ama Konadu, she was the 14th Queen Mother of the Asante Kingdom and the biological sister of the current Asantehene. She ascended the sacred stool five years ago, following the passing of her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who previously held the title.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III was widely admired for her wisdom, resilience, and deep commitment to preserving Asante traditions. As a close and trusted advisor to the Asantehene, she played a crucial role in promoting unity and safeguarding the cultural legacy of the kingdom.

Her presence at the Manhyia Palace represented not only royal authority but also maternal leadership, peace, and stability—qualities deeply cherished by both the royal family and the Asante people.

Although official details about the circumstances of her death remain limited, family sources indicate that she passed away in the early hours of August 7, 2025.

In accordance with royal customs, the Manhyia Palace is expected to release an official public announcement and funeral arrangements once all traditional rites and protocols have been observed.
