Bernard Bediako Elected NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Akwatia By-Election

Lawyer Bernard Bediako has emerged as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the upcoming Akwatia by-election scheduled for September 2, 2025.

In a closely contested internal election, Bediako secured victory with 380 votes. He was followed closely by Erasmus Koney Ali, who garnered 366 votes. Former Member of Parliament, Henry Yiadom Boakye, placed third with 226 votes.

The Akwatia by-election has been necessitated by the unfortunate passing of the sitting MP, Ernest Kumi, who died six months after winning the seat in the 2024 general elections. According to the Speaker of Parliament, Kumi died due to heart-related complications.

Bernard Bediako will now lead the NDC’s charge to reclaim the Akwatia seat in the upcoming by-election.
