Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs may seek home confinement instead of prison time, according to statements made by his attorney, Marc Agnifilo. Diddy is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Centre (MDC) in Brooklyn as he awaits sentencing in his federal case.
Although he was acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges in July after a two-month trial, Diddy was convicted on two counts of transportation for prostitution. He now faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
Speaking in a recent interview with TMZ’s Harvey Levin, Agnifilo criticized the MDC for its limited access to rehabilitation programs, particularly those focused on anger management and substance abuse. Citing those shortcomings, he indicated that home confinement could be a more effective alternative for his client.
“We enrolled him in a batterers program even before his federal arrest,” Agnifilo said. “Honestly, I wish he had done it 30 years ago.”
He added that requesting home confinement is a likely move, emphasizing Diddy’s recognition of his own need for therapy and counseling.
“He believes he needs this help, and that’s what really matters,” Agnifilo noted. “I plan to ask the judge to include counseling as a condition of any supervised release.”
This legal strategy comes shortly after Diddy was denied bail for the second time ahead of his October sentencing. In his appeal, the Bad Boy Records founder claimed he was being unfairly targeted and cited allegedly poor conditions within the detention center.
However, Judge Arun Subramanian ruled that there were no "exceptional reasons" to override the legal requirements for detention. “Even if the flight-or-danger requirement was satisfied, there are no ‘exceptional reasons’ warranting a departure from what Congress has required,” the judge stated.
