A significant number of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters in the Akwatia Constituency have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the party's choice of parliamentary candidate following the just-ended primary.
The disgruntled members claim the party acted unfairly by sidelining Erasmus Koney Ali, affectionately known as "Asanka," despite his years of dedicated service. They allege that the party leadership covertly backed Bernard Bediako, who they accuse of influencing delegates with financial incentives ranging between GHS 2,000 and GHS 4,000.
"Asanka has worked harder than even the sitting MP," one aggrieved supporter told MyNewsGh.com. “The party brought in a lawyer and supported him with money to win the primaries. Since they’ve treated Asanka unfairly, we will also respond by voting for the NPP in the main election.”
Bernard Bediako emerged victorious in the NDC's primary held on August 4, 2025, securing 380 votes to clinch the parliamentary candidacy for the upcoming by-election.
The Akwatia constituency is scheduled to hold a parliamentary by-election on September 2, 2025, following the passing of its sitting Member of Parliament.
