Former Vice President of Ghana and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has visited the family of the late legendary highlife musician, Daddy Lumba, to express his condolences.
Accompanied by a delegation that included Members of Parliament, party officials, and close associates, Dr. Bawumia visited the musician’s residence to offer his support and sign the book of condolence.
In a statement shared on social media following the visit, Dr. Bawumia paid tribute to Daddy Lumba’s immense contribution to Ghana’s music industry and national culture. He also used the occasion to call on the government to consider honoring the late icon with a state funeral.
“Together with some officials of the NPP, MPs, and friends, I visited the residence of the late music legend, Daddy Lumba, to commiserate with his family and sign the book of condolence,” the statement read.
“Lumba’s contributions to the nation through his deep and timeless songs are immense. In recognition of his service to Ghana, I have appealed for the state to honour him with a state funeral. May his soul rest in peace,” he added.
Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, was one of Ghana’s most celebrated musicians, known for his distinctive voice, lyrical depth, and lasting influence on generations of highlife and contemporary music lovers.
