Evangelist Akwesi Nyarko Appeals to Mahama: “I’ve Gone Days Without Food Despite My Loyalty”

 

Ghanaian gospel musician Evangelist Akwesi Nyarko has made a heartfelt plea to former President John Dramani Mahama, expressing feelings of abandonment after years of loyal support for the former leader and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a video shared widely on social media, the gospel artist recounted his unwavering support for Mahama, particularly during a time when the former president's political comeback seemed uncertain. Nyarko revealed that he even composed a campaign song for Mahama, a move that, according to him, severely impacted his music career.

"Even when your return to power seemed unlikely, I stood by you. I created a campaign song out of genuine belief in your leadership," Nyarko said.

The evangelist explained that his public alignment with the NDC came at a steep cost. Since his endorsement, he claims to have been blacklisted by event organizers and marginalized within the gospel music industry, where political neutrality is often expected.

Despite his sacrifices, Nyarko lamented that neither Mahama nor the NDC has acknowledged his efforts or extended any form of support. Repeated attempts to reach out to the former president have reportedly gone unanswered, pushing him to voice his frustrations publicly.

What struck many viewers was Nyarko’s emotional admission that he is now facing severe financial hardship—so dire that he sometimes goes without food.

“There are days I’ve had to go hungry for three days straight,” he shared tearfully in the video.

His plea shines a spotlight on the potential personal consequences of political involvement for public figures in Ghana’s often polarized political environment.

As of now, there has been no public response from former President Mahama or the NDC leadership regarding Nyarko’s claims.
