GAF Helicopter Crash: Aircraft Attempted Three Emergency Landings Before Fatal Accident — KMA Boss Reveals

 

Fresh insights have emerged regarding the tragic Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) helicopter crash that occurred in Obuasi on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, claiming several lives and leaving the nation in mourning.

In an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM, Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, revealed that the helicopter made three unsuccessful landing attempts before the crash.

According to Mr. Boadi, one of the passengers, Samuel Aboagye, maintained communication with the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) during the flight. “He initially asked the MCE to bring his vehicle to the airstrip. Moments later, he informed him that they couldn’t land there and requested the car be redirected to Oforikrom,” Mr. Boadi explained.

The helicopter reportedly made two failed landing attempts at the Obuasi airstrip and another at Oforikrom before it ultimately crashed.

Mr. Boadi commended the swift response by the Adansi Akrofuom District Chief Executive, Mr. Gariba, for leading efforts to recover the victims from the crash site. He also urged the public to exercise compassion and discretion when discussing the incident and called for respect toward the families affected by the tragedy.

The incident has sparked national grief and renewed calls for improved aviation safety protocols, particularly in military operations.
