The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have officially confirmed that one of their military helicopters—carrying Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah—has disappeared from radar and is feared to have crashed.
According to a communiqué issued by the Armed Forces, the aircraft, identified as a GAF Z-9 helicopter, departed Accra at 9:12 AM on a scheduled flight to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region. However, not long after takeoff, the helicopter lost contact with air traffic control and has not been located since.
“A GAF helicopter, Z-9, that took off this morning at 0912hrs from Accra and was heading to Obuasi is currently off the radar. All efforts are being made to establish contact,” the statement read.
The helicopter was carrying a total of eight people, made up of five passengers and three crew members. Among the passengers was Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Ghana’s Minister for Defence.
