Kofi Akpaloo Issues Public Apology Over Controversial Comments on Military Helicopter Crash

Kofi Akpaloo, founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), has publicly apologized for remarks he made regarding the tragic military helicopter crash that occurred on August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District, claiming the lives of eight military personnel.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Akpaloo expressed profound regret over the pain his comments caused, particularly to the families of the victims and the general public.

“I am not happy at all, and I feel terrible that my comments caused pain to many people and families. I am sincerely sorry and ask for their forgiveness,” he stated.

Clarifying his earlier statements, Akpaloo explained that his reaction was rooted in grief and frustration over the increasing frequency of preventable deaths in Ghana.

“My brother Omane Boamah is not someone I can betray. I was devastated when I heard of his passing. My reaction came from the pain of knowing that people are dying almost every day in this country, and we seem to have normalised it,” he explained.

He emphasized the broader issue of loss of life in Ghana, particularly from road accidents and other preventable causes, which he feels often go unnoticed.

“We have lost many through road accidents, and yet we don’t value lives enough. That frustration and sorrow are what came out in my words,” Akpaloo added.

The politician came under public scrutiny after he initially downplayed the tragedy, stating there was “nothing gloomy” about the helicopter crash because deaths happen daily across the country, including among children. His comments were widely criticized as insensitive.

In response to the backlash, Akpaloo took to the airwaves to clarify his position and extend a heartfelt apology. He reiterated his respect for the victims and their families and called for a renewed national commitment to valuing human life.
