Traffic along the Kasoa–Buduburam stretch has come to a near standstill as persistent flooding continues to hamper movement, with commuters enduring hours of congestion.
The flooding, particularly severe along the Yoomart–Dr. Jesus road, has been largely attributed to recent heavy rains. However, road users argue that ongoing construction activities have significantly worsened the situation.
On the morning of Tuesday, August 5, numerous commuters were left stranded in traffic for several hours. Several vehicles, including commercial and private ones, broke down due to the poor road conditions.
Kwame Nkrumah, a taxi driver whose vehicle broke down, criticized the contractors for failing to provide alternative routes during the construction. “The contractor has failed to create bypasses or improve the road surface in the construction zones. This is causing damage to our vehicles,” he said in an interview with Citi News.
Wofa Anthony, a truck driver, echoed similar concerns after spending nearly four hours travelling a stretch of less than a kilometre between Buduburam and Prisons Junction. “Four of our trucks have overturned at Buduburam since the construction began. There’s a large hole on the road that has been ignored by the contractor,” he stated.
Frustrated road users are now calling on relevant authorities to reassess the scope and execution of the ongoing construction project, managed by Nag Fairmount Company Limited. They argue the contractor's negligence is not only affecting transportation but also having broader economic implications for the area.
