Two Suspected Robbers Fatally Shot During Police Operation on Atebubu Highway

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the deaths of two suspected armed robbers following a gunfire exchange during an anti-robbery operation along the Atebubu highway in the Bono East Region.

According to preliminary investigations, the incident occurred on July 30, 2025, when a police patrol team encountered an ongoing robbery targeting commuters on the highway. Upon the arrival of the officers, the suspects opened fire, prompting police to return fire in self-defense.

Two of the suspects sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival. The remaining suspects managed to flee into a nearby bush and are currently at large.

In a statement shared on the official Facebook page of the Ghana Police Service on August 2, law enforcement authorities reported the recovery of a short gun loaded with two live cartridges, four spent cartridges, and a machete at the scene of the confrontation.

The police have launched a manhunt for the remaining suspects and are urging the public to provide any information that may assist in their apprehension.
