Wenchi, Bono Region – Following the recent violent clashes in Gbinyiri, hundreds of displaced residents have sought refuge in Subinso II, located within the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region. Over 650 individuals, primarily women and children, have fled from the Sawla–Tuna–Kalba district in the Savannah Region, escaping violent conflict in their home communities.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Wenchi, Ms. Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, visited the displaced residents and expressed deep concern for their current condition. She emphasized the urgent need for public support and described the situation as "deeply troubling," particularly for the children who are suffering from a lack of basic necessities, including food, proper clothing, and footwear.
"The food we have is insufficient," Ms. Opoku Gyamfi stated. "Considering the large number of children, the supplies we currently have will last just a day. Many of the children are barefoot, and their clothing is tattered."
In response, the MCE is calling for immediate donations of food, clothing, and other essential supplies. Contributions can be dropped off at the Wenchi Municipal Assembly, which will oversee their swift distribution to the affected families.
Ms. Opoku Gyamfi also appealed to the displaced residents to remain calm and avoid any actions that could further escalate tensions in the area. She reassured them that local security agencies are actively monitoring the situation to ensure peace and security for the vulnerable communities.
"Ensuring the safety and dignity of these displaced families is a shared responsibility," she added, urging businesses, individuals, and non-governmental organizations to lend their support during this crisis.
The Wenchi MCE's call for assistance underscores the growing humanitarian needs stemming from the Gbinyiri conflict, and the importance of collective action in times of crisis.
