The Ghana Police Service has assured residents of Akwatia that the military will only be deployed during the upcoming by-election if absolutely necessary.
Speaking to the media, the Director General of Operations, COP Vance Baba Gariba, explained that while the military will be on standby, their involvement will be contingent on the situation on the ground. "The military will remain on standby. They will only be deployed if the need arises. If the situation does not warrant their involvement, we will not request their deployment," COP Gariba stated.
The Police also called on the public to conduct themselves peacefully and urged citizens to turn out in large numbers to exercise their right to vote. They assured the public of their full protection and security throughout the electoral process.
"We want to reassure the people of Akwatia that they should come out in their numbers and vote. The Ghana Police Service will continue to ensure their safety and security during this period," COP Gariba added.
The Police Service emphasized its readiness to maintain law and order and reiterated that they would be working closely with other security agencies to guarantee a peaceful, free, and transparent election.
