Democracy and Strategy Behind NDC's Akwatia By-Election Victory: Dzifa Gunu Reflects

In the aftermath of the Akwatia by-election, Dzifa Gunu, the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Digital Centres Limited and an experienced public relations specialist, lauded the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their "bold and respectful" approach in securing a significant victory. Gunu attributed the party's success to a strategy based on grassroots engagement, inclusivity, and discipline.

In a recent statement, Gunu praised the NDC for its commitment to democratic principles during the election. He emphasized that the party allowed the people of Akwatia to guide the process by reopening nominations and holding a fair internal election. Rather than imposing a candidate, the NDC invited all qualified aspirants to participate in a transparent and competitive process. Gunu described this as "a daring and respectful process" that aligned with the party’s respect for the people of Akwatia.

The Akwatia seat became vacant following a contentious loss in the 2024 parliamentary elections, which had fueled the NDC’s determination to rebuild trust with local constituents. In contrast to the NPP's approach, which Gunu argued involved the imposition of a candidate without engaging the grassroots, the NDC took a more inclusive and democratic route.

Despite facing setbacks during the campaign, including a tragic event that slowed their initial momentum, Gunu highlighted the resilience of the NDC’s leadership. With only two weeks remaining before the election, the NPP had an early advantage due to its extensive campaign efforts. However, the NDC regrouped quickly and executed what Gunu described as a "surgical operation" on the ground, focusing on a well-coordinated, targeted campaign led by national, regional, constituency, and branch executives.

"This victory is a testament to the fact that political parties can win elections through strategy and respect for the electorate—not just through power and resource mobilization," Gunu asserted. He emphasized that the NDC’s approach had reshaped the political landscape in Ghana, setting a new standard for political campaigns. The people of Akwatia rewarded the NDC for this approach, securing the seat with a resounding win.

In conclusion, Gunu attributed the NDC's success to the strength of its local party structures and disciplined campaigning. This victory is seen as a clear demonstration that political victories can be achieved through integrity, respect, and strategic effort.

Ken Ofori-Atta Files Legal Action Against Special Prosecutor Over 'Wanted Person' Label

Former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has taken legal action against the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), seeking an injunction to prevent the agency from continuing to label him as a “wanted person” or “fugitive from justice.” This legal move comes after Ofori-Atta's image and personal details were publicly displayed on the OSP's official social media pages, despite earlier assurances made in a letter dated February 18, 2025.
