Ahead of the election, the NDC in the Northern Region implemented strict measures to ensure a transparent and orderly process. Dr. Arnold Mashud Abukari, the Director of Elections and IT for the region, confirmed the deployment of 250 joint security personnel and the use of QR-code-enabled tags for delegates to prevent any irregularities.
This election was held in the wake of the tragic death of the constituency's former Member of Parliament, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who passed away in a military helicopter crash on August 6. With this victory, Prof. Alidu is now set to represent the NDC in the crucial Tamale Central by-election on September 30, 2025, where the party aims to retain the seat.
