Ken Agyapong: "IMF Will Become Irrelevant Under My Leadership"

Kennedy Agyapong, a prominent flagbearer hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has outlined his ambitious vision for Ghana's economy should he assume the presidency. Agyapong, who has positioned himself as a candidate committed to economic independence, asserts that under his leadership, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will no longer be a focal point in the nation's economic discussions.

In a recent post on social media platform X, Agyapong emphasized that past administrations have been too reliant on the IMF for financial bailouts, a practice he believes undermines national sovereignty. He remarked that leaders whose primary concern is negotiating with the IMF are ineffective and unfit for leadership. "If your vision for Ghana starts with a trip to the IMF, you have already failed," he stated. "My vision is to create a robust economy that is self-sufficient and so powerful that the IMF becomes irrelevant in our national discourse."

Agyapong's stance on economic self-reliance is a central theme of his campaign. He advocates for job creation as a critical solution to Ghana's persistent unemployment challenges, which he identifies as one of the country's most pressing issues. Agyapong's approach contrasts with the reliance on international financial institutions that has characterized past governments. He believes that fostering local industries, supporting innovation, and creating employment opportunities will pave the way for sustainable growth and economic stability.

As he campaigns to become the NPP's flagbearer for the 2028 presidential election, Agyapong is optimistic about his chances of securing the party's nomination and ultimately leading Ghana. His message is clear: Ghana must move away from external financial assistance and focus on building a resilient, self-sustaining economy.

Former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has taken legal action against the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), seeking an injunction to prevent the agency from continuing to label him as a “wanted person” or “fugitive from justice.” This legal move comes after Ofori-Atta's image and personal details were publicly displayed on the OSP's official social media pages, despite earlier assurances made in a letter dated February 18, 2025. In a motion filed by his legal team, Ofori-Atta argues that the OSP's actions violate the principles of administrative justice, specifically the right to a fair process and the protection of his personal dignity. Additionally, Ofori-Atta seeks an interlocutory injunction to stop the OSP from issuing any further press releases or public statements that ...
