Hamza Suhuyini, a private legal practitioner and member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team, has voiced concern about what he perceives as a growing disconnect between the party’s leadership and the grassroots.
Speaking at the Political Strategy Lab hosted by the University of Media and Communication Studies, Suhuyini lamented that some top NDC officials are increasingly distant from the very people who voted them into power.
“The leader has said it, and I agree with him this time. Just look at the high table here. Six or eight months ago, it would’ve been filled with big names from the NDC. Today, I only count two of us from the NDC — and we don’t even hold government positions,” he said.
Suhuyini argued that such detachment is often how political parties begin to lose power. He stressed the need for the NDC to realign with its base before the damage becomes irreversible.
“It’s a fact, not propaganda. While the NPP is already regrouping, we seem to be pulling away from the gains we made in the last election. Even the minority leader made time to be here today — a clear sign that they’re mobilizing while we are retracting,” he added.
